Firefox 7 is out! Review in few short sentences!

Yup today Mozilla released Firefox 7 and they are definitely following the new release schedule. My first impressions of Firefox 7 is not the design but the performance. In terms of design nothing has been changed but these people have improved the speed. I don't know how much compared to Firefox 5 or 6 but you can definitely feel that they've made our favourite browser faster.

Not only that but the start-up time has been improved as well. Don't know how faster but I'm sure that some people will stop complaining that Firefox starts slow.

Another good thing is that most add-ons which worked with Firefox 6 work great with Firefox 7. You can get Add-ons and Themes by opening the Add-ons Manager, or by visiting the Add-ons Web site. Add-ons installed with previous versions of Firefox may not yet have been updated by their authors to work with this Firefox. If you wish to help test Add-ons, please install the Add-on Compatibility Reporter - your favorite Add-on author will appreciate it!

Here are the official release notes :
  • Drastically improved memory handling for certain use cases
  • Added a new rendering backend to speed up Canvas operations on Windows systems
  • Bookmark and password changes now sync almost instantly when using Firefox Sync
  • The 'http://' URL prefix is now hidden by default
  • Added support for text-overflow: ellipsis
  • Added support for the Web Timing specification
  • Enhanced support for MathML
  • The WebSocket protocol has been updated from version 7 to version 8
  • Added an opt-in system for users to send performance data back to Mozilla to improve future versions of Firefox
  • Fixed several stability issues
  • Fixed several security issues
Please see the complete list of changes in this version. Web and extension developers should also view the curated list of platform changes. You may also be interested in the list of changes in the previous version.

By far I'm satisfied with the improvements in performance. Good job Firefox developers. Keep up the great work. For all of you who don't like what they are doing all I can say is : If you don't like it don't use it!

Enjoy and have a nice day! : )

Firefox 7 coming tomorrow.

According to Mozilla Firefox 7 should be released tomorrow. Currently I'm using the beta and it definitely starts and loads pages faster. Personally I don't expect anything new in terms or performance or design. They are probably going to fix a few more bugs in the final release.

Meanwhile all my Firefox themes support Firefox 7 and 8 alpha. Everything works and looks fine. Latest versions of Sky Pilot and Purple Fox which includes 2 awesome new designs have been approved and are now available on the Mozilla add-ons site. Hope you like the new designs and bug fixes.

Next on the update list is Orange Fox and I'm working on a 3rd Bloody Red sub-skin ( see post below ) which should be released as soon as version 7.0.19.09.11 gets reviewed. Hope you like what I'm doing and despite the fact that I have less time to work on themes I'm doing the best I can to keep my themes compatible with newer Firefox versions.

Enjoy and please donate if you can. Even the smallest donation helps. If you want to help you can donate by clicking the pay pal button on the left. Thanks!

3rd Bloody Red sub-skin coming soon!

Users! New Bloody Red sub-skin as soon as version 7.0.19.09.11 gets reviewed!
The design is the same as Purple Fox skin 2 but it looks nice with Bloody Red as well so I'm making it a 3rd Bloody Red skin. I'll try to add new images to the add-ons manager as well.

Wish me luck and donate if you can. It helps a lot. Version 7.0.19.09.11 is still awaiting the editors review but you can download it from  https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/a-bloody-red-theme/versions/

I'm looking for Mac and Windows 7 testers

Like my themes? Want to help future development and platform support?

I am looking for people who own Windows 7 or Mac and are interested in being part of Firefox theme development. Development requires testing and it is nice if I have all platforms to test my themes but unfortunately I don't and I don't have the money to buy a new PC with Windows 7 or a Mac. So if you own one of these platforms and want to help please let me know by emailing to whitebluepc@abv.bg

Another way you can help is by donating. I'm raising money to buy a new machine because the one I own is 6 years old and the performance is terrible. So if you want to donate just click on the donate button below.

Bloody Red theme pack - 3 themes in one!

Bloody Red theme pack is finally here! Latest version (7.0.19.09.11) includes 2 more Bloody Red skins, new tab group window design and few minor bug fixes.

When you download the theme from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/a-bloody-red-theme/versions/ you install the Bloody Red classic design which you might be familiar with. Here's how to use the other two awesome looking new Bloody Red designs!

To use the subskin you need to add a line of code to your userChrome.css document. It's really simple. userChrome.css is a file that you can edit to tweak the appearance of Firefox. When Firefox starts up, it reads this file and then applies any commands you may have added to this file.

The file is located in C:\Documents and Settings\[USER]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\default.tea\chrome\ . If you don't have it create a new document with notepad and name it userChrome.css .After that paste in the directory written above.

Bloody Red has two lines of code which can add. You can add one at a time. You can't use the two new designs at the same time.
 -------------------------------------------------------------------------
In order to use the Bloody Red Lava design (image on the right) simple add this line of code to your userChrome.css document!

@import url("chrome://browser/skin/skins/skin1.css");

If Firefox is open close and start it again to see the changes. If your Firefox is already closed just paste the code, start it and you shall see the difference.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Same goes for design 2 - Bloody Red gradient (image on the left). Simply add this code to your userChrome.css document.

@import url("chrome://browser/skin/skins/skin2.css");

If Firefox is open close and start it again to see the changes. If your Firefox is already closed just paste the code, start it and you shall see the changes.

Bloody Red next on the update list!

Bloody Red lava
I'm starting work on new version of Bloody Red. I'll fix a lot of Firefox 6 and above related bugs like the url color, broken categories icons in the add-ons manager and more.

Also I'll try to add the Bloody Red Lava design to the theme. Users will be able to use it by placing a line of code in their userChrome.css document like they do with Purple Fox (to learn more about the userChrome.css document see the article below)

Bloody Red lava used to be available for users you donated but now it's free and you can download it from HERE This is a like a new theme and has nothing to do with the original Bloody Red. The icons and the design are new but with this next version you decide which design to use by adding or removing the line of code from your userChrome document.

That's all for now. More news soon! : )

Presenting Purple Fox skin 2!

Honestly I have no idea how many people read my blog or visit my websites because I still have no comments, followers or likes and stuff but who knows maybe there are Purple Fox fans somewhere around. Second Purple Fox skin is complete. There are few more things I want to fix before releasing the theme.

Next version of Purple Fox will include the following features :
*Purple Fox classic skin with minor bug fixes and improvements
*Two new skins which can be activated by placing a line of code in your userChrome.css document (more about how to do that in future article when I release the new version.)

Here's an image of Skin 2 :

Have a nice day! :-)

Less time for themes till July 2012!

I have bad news for you users. My last year at school has started. From this day probably till July I'll have less time to work on my themes. I have exams at the end of the year and as much as I don't like exams and school I have to focus on that for awhile. I'll try to support the themes as well. There might be slight delays but I'll try to make them compatible with newer versions of Firefox as soon as possible.

Please be patient and try to understand cuz I don't think some people do. Real life is more important than a Firefox theme!

Just wish me luck and hope that everything goes fine. Tonight I'll reveal the second Purple Fox skin. That's all for now. Have a nice day! :-)

Purple Fox subskins?

Purple Fox subskin 1
I've always wanted to make subskins for some of my themes and this may become possible in the near future.I have the design and all that's needed is some coding.

I've make 2 more Purple Fox designs. You can see the first one on the left.It has a nice lighter design with grey patters.I'll reveal the second one tomorrow but I've been working on this and hopefully I'll release it soon.Hope there are no problems with the coding.Users can enable the new designs by placing a line of code in their userChrome.css file. (more information about that soon)

Another thing I want to say is that if everything runs fine I'll probably try to implement the Purple Fox Christmas design as a 4th subskin in the future.I haven't come up with the design yet and it is probably going to be really complicated so I may not release it as a subskin but we'll see in the future.I'm not even sure for the Christmas design yet but I thought it'd be nice to give some info about how the development of theme shall continue.

Purple Fox theme with new preview image!

Purple Fox - new preview image!
Unfortunately for the last month Purple Fox downloads when down from 1700 to less than 400 which is not good for me. This used to be one of my most popular themes back in the Firefox 4 nad 5 days. Sometimes a theme can be really bad and get a lot downloads and users because of the preview image. I decided to change it.
I've added a nice dark purple-gray background, the logo and the navigation as a preview. In my case I'm having an awesome theme and a preview so I hope that it'll help attract more people to download purple fox. Hope you like it as much as I do. Wish me luck :_)

Hope you like the new version.I've put a lot of work in fixing these bugs, especially the tab background. Also some people where saying that the version number confuses them.
7.0 is the number of Firefox I'm using in this case Firefox 7 beta

About the numbers people are saying that I should put the month in front of the date.I don't know where you live bug here in my country we write it date, month, year.I apologise if I confused someone but that's how I'm used to it.After all the theme is what matters not the version number.Don't criticize me for that. : )

Download Sky Pilot from HERE!

Remember every navigator needs a pilot!

What's new in Firefox 6.0.2?

The latest version of Firefox has the following changes:

Removed trust exceptions for certificates issued by Staat der Nederlanden (see bug 683449 and the security advisory)

Sky Pilot background bug almost fixed!

Bug almost fixed. Thanks to some image editing, pixel magic and positioning. What's left you may ask?Well the other side is still terrible.I have and idea how to fix it.Keep your fingers crossed. Also the background is lighter. Another problem is that I know where the problem is but the code is from the old theme and I'm finding difficulties with editing it that's why I'm trying other methods which seem to work for now. : )

Back from fishing!Working on Sky Pilot update!

People I love fishing! It's a bit wild and I feel really relaxed and focused while doing that.Yesterdays was awesome. It started bad but in the end everything turned out to be awesome. For some reason I couldn't sleep well that night and in the morning I had to go to my lessons class (not sure if you'll understand but let's say I had work to do) and than I went fishing. It's a bit of a coincidence.6th September is the day where 126 years ago the south and north parts of Bulgaria united. The dam is named that way and it was nice.I caught a predator fish. The one on the pic has teeth and it can bite. After I came home there were fireworks because of 6th of September

So enough personal stuff and lets get to something you may be interested in.Like I said yesterday was awesome. There was this user (won't mention the name cuz I don't want people to spam in social networks) who donated a good amount of money and gave me the motivation to release a new version of Sky Pilot. There are tons of things fixed and still the tab background is a pain in the *ss.Currently there are 3 things I want to fix one of which I have no idea how for now (tab background) one which I haven't looked for a way to fix yet and a simple one which takes a bit of time.

That's all for now.Enjoy! : )

Google Chrome grabs 15.5% market share in August, IE, Firefox slip

Google's three year-old browser has continued its upwards trend in August, with Net Applications publishing statistics that show Chrome grabbing 15.51% market share globally. In July Chrome topped 14.33% so it's growth continues to be pretty solid.
While Chrome has consolidated its third place in the browser market, Microsoft's Internet Explorer and Mozilla's Firefox both lost a little ground but remained the first and second most used browsers, respectively. IE had in August a share of 55.31% (55.97% in July) while Firefox settled for 22.57% (22.81%).
On fourth place globally we have Apple's Safari with 4.64% (4.63 in July) while on fifth there's Opera Software's Opera with 1.68% (1.70%).

Firefox 7,8,9 release dates + preview in few sentences!Be the first to try Firefox 9!

You all probably know (or most of you) that Mozilla is going to release new Firefox version in 6 weeks.Well guess what they are going to release Firefox 7 by the end of the month. And yes I'm not joking. Here's what I found in the Mozilla wiki about the future releases.

Firefox 7
currently in BETA channel
moves to RELEASED on September 27, 2011
I personally tried the beta. It's nice.Compared to Firefox 5 and 6 it's definitely better. They've fixed some bugs and the speed is insane.

Firefox 8
Firefox 8 is currently in AURORA channel and it will move to Beta on September 27, 2011
I tried the Aurora and all I can say it feels the same like Firefox 7 beta.It doesn't feel faster but the good thing is that for the short time I used it I have not found any bugs or crashes.I think they'll add speed improvements in the beta but will see.
 Firefox 9
currently in NIGHTLY channel
moves to AURORA on September 27, 2011
Yup they've released an alpha version of Firefox.Tried it for a few minutes but I saw nothing new but I might use it for awhile to see if there's something new besides  the compatibility check add-ons window which pops before you start the browser for the first time.Firefox 9 is coming in 2012 that's for sure.Mozilla is planning huge design changes and improvements which will open a job for Firefox add-on developers like me.If you want to be one of the first to try Firefox 9 I've put a link for download at the bottom of this topic!

*Fixed categories bug with Firefox 6 and above
*Fixed tab group bug
*Fixed icon bug with add-ons such as Video download helper, firebug and more.
*Fixed close button bug with Windows 7
*Fixed bug with version number

Other add-ons should have new versions as well.I'm slowly fixing bugs.Next on my list are Orange Fox,Purple Fox and Bloody Red.I have a version for Sky Pilot almost complete as well but I'm having difficulties with fixing 2 bugs. The tab background bug turned out to be a pain in the a** and I have an idea for the other one.

New email notifications on AMO

Earlier today Mozilla launched the first part of a revamp of their email notifications system that offers more fine-grained control over the notifications you receive, as well as one-click unsubscribe. You can read more about this revamp on the WebDev Blog.

Add-on developers will likely notice this new system very soon, as they’ll begin receiving emails when users write reviews of their add-ons. Additionally, when developers reply to a user’s review, that user will now receive an email with the response. This has been one of AMO’s most-requested features for years, so they’re very happy to make it available.
Screenshot of opt out tool

They’re continuing to roll out more pages in their new design over the coming weeks and look forward to hearing your feedback on them.
