Firefox 8.0 alpha 1 first impressions! All themes support Firefox 8

Hi!
Yesterday I made a post about the new Mozilla Firefox 8.0a1.I tried it and in this short post I'll share my impressions.

1.Performance
I guess they made many performance improvements. The browser definitely feels and loads faster.
2.Design
No design improvements here.Same goes for Firefox 6 and 7They've only added few small icons here and theme but the normal user won't be able to notice any difference.
That's basically all I can say about Firefox 8.0 alpha 1.They haven't added new things but performance is all that matters.

Since there's almost nothing new in the design all add-ons which were compatible with Firefox 4 (or most of them) should work fine with Firefox 8 alpha. My themes work great with it.So what are you waiting for?Go and grab one. ;)

Thumbs up for the shine image test

I'd like to give mcdavis a thumbs up for the shine image test. =D> I was planning to do the same but I won't cuz I want to see if your downloads will go up or maybe I'll add it to a theme which has 1000 weekly downloads. This way I won't effect your test that much and will see if a theme can go from page 6 to page 3-2 or why not 1 because of an image :).I hate the Shine Bright Skin theme. It fools people.Such effect can't be made but unfortunately people don't know that. The reviews prove it.The theme is not that great. It's a shame that it made 1 000 000 because of a dumb image.I had to wait 2 years for my Blue Fox to reach 1 800 000 downloads.Mozilla should do something about this.Unfortunately they don't care about themes that much.

Thanks to all of you who donated.I received a small amount of money from 3 people and I'm hoping to get more in the near future.Donations sure help and I'm glad you appreciate all that time and effort I've put in these themes.

Thank you and have a nice day! ;)

Previewing AMO’s New Look

We’re very excited to begin rolling out a new design for our homepage and add-on details page to a small number of visitors to addons.mozilla.org very soon. These new designs bring some of our most popular pages in line with the new Mozilla styling and provide a cleaner, simpler look for exploring the thousands of add-ons in our gallery.

Homepage

Screenshot of new homepage
The homepage design features a new hovercard that hides information when you’re glancing through a grid and don’t need the clutter, but reveals it when you’re interested in learning more about the add-on. Using this new layout, we’re able to surface a wider variety of add-ons. The same rotating banners visible in the Firefox 4 Add-ons Manager are now on the homepage to offer fresh new content every month. And we’ve switched our primary popularity metric from weekly downloads to the average daily users each add-on has had over the last 7 days, rewarding add-ons that people love and keep using instead of those users simply tried out because they were already popular.
We’ve also brought back something AMO hasn’t seen in many years: top-level navigation, making it easy to get to any part of the site from every page. This navigation also helps users understand the different types of add-ons available, and we’ll be adding more educational content soon to these menus and the homepage banners.

Add-on Details

Screenshot of new details page
When re-organizing the add-on details page, we looked at each individual item and ranked its importance in the process of learning about and installing an add-on. The most important items are at the top, while things most users aren’t interested in have been hidden at the bottom. We’ve also made some much-needed functionality improvements to this page: simple actions like viewing a privacy policy or reporting abuse now load in a lightbox instead of a separate page, developers now have a prominent link to manage their add-on from its details page, and it’s much easier to find other add-ons you might be interested in from this page.
Over the next few weeks this design will start rolling out to more and more users while we watch your feedback and how this design affects user activity on the site. Please try out the new design and let us know what you think — we hope you like this new design as much as we do.

Add-on SDK and Add-on Builder Beta

We’re very happy to announce two new Firefox add-on development tools from Mozilla: the Add-on SDK and the beta release of Add-on Builder.
Creating add-ons for Firefox is now quick and easy. If you’re familiar with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, then you already have the necessary skills to build add-ons using these tools. In addition, all add-ons created with the Add-on Builder or Add-on SDK are restartless by default, meaning users do not have to interupt their browsing to begin using your add-on right away.
There are two ways for developers to create their add-ons. The Add-on Builder Beta is a hosted, online build environment, and provides a robust code editor with built-in revisioning, module selection, testing tools and build tools. Alternatively, there is a downloadable SDK for those who are comfortable with a command line interface and prefer to use their own development environment. The video below gives an overview of both tools:
We’ve carefully selected a common set of Javascript APIs to help you perform the most common tasks in add-on development so that you can: build a user interface, interact with the browser, and access and manipulate web content. You also have the ability to share your work with other developers – either selectively or through addons.mozilla.org.
We continue to add new APIs to keep pace with new Firefox features, as well as making sure the existing APIs work with potentially incompatible versions of the browser. You’ll also have the pick of a number 3rd party APIs developed by the Mozilla community. Two examples of available add-ons built with these tools are CopyShortURL and Grooveshark Remote Control
To get started, once you’ve watched overview video above, check out the tutorial video which covers the building of an add-on from beginning to end using the Add-on Builder on the new Add-on Builder and Add-on SDK page. Also, take a look at the extensive documentation and APIs for use with your add-ons.
When you’re ready, log in to the Add-on Builder to build your add-on online, or download the Add-on SDK to work locally.

How many Firefox users have add-ons installed? 85%!

The revamped Add-ons Manager in Firefox 4 provides a rich experience for add-on discovery and management, and to power that service Mozilla receives aggregate data on add-on usage. We previously estimated that at least a third of Firefox users had chosen to install an add-on, but knew the number was higher than that.
We’re very excited to report that 85% of Firefox 4 users have chosen to install an add-on — that’s more than 60 million users every day! This number doesn’t include Personas, and even excludes popular add-ons bundled with other software that the user hasn’t actively agreed to install.
Graph of add-on usageFirefox 4 desktop add-on usage from March 22 through June 19, 2011, excluding Personas and several commonly-bundled add-ons
When we first saw this number, we expected it to drop as more and more users upgraded to Firefox 4; remarkably, it has stayed between 89% and 85% since launch in March. It’s also interesting to note that on the weekends when Firefox (and Internet) usage slumps, the percentage of users with add-ons increases, indicating those who browse on weekends are more likely to have customized Firefox.
We’ve also learned that on average, users have 5 add-ons installed, with the following distribution:
Graph of add-on distributionFirefox 4 desktop add-on distribution from June 19, 2011, excluding Personas and several commonly-bundled add-ons
With more than 2.5 billion downloads and 580 million add-ons in use every day in Firefox 4 alone, there’s no better time to browse our gallery and make Firefox your own.

Firefox 5 is out!

Mozilla promised a faster refresh cycle for its wily web browser, following the release of Firefox 4, and it's made good on that promise. We got word this morning that the final version of Firefox 5 is now available for download on Mozilla's ftp server, just 12 weeks after the last re-up. The latest incarnation brings with it support for CSS animation and a more easily accessible do-not-track setting -- now available at the top of the privacy pane -- but won't see much in the way of GUI enhancements. Of course, if you want to play it safe, and avoid any last-minute tweaks, you can always hold off until version 5 gets official, but what's the fun in that? If you've already got your hands on the sly fox, let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Donations help future support and faster theme releases

Hi!
Users I've enabled a contribution option for my themes. When you visit their download pages you'll see a contribute button below the Add to Firefox button.Contributing will help to continue the support of all 10 themes which I own.How am I going to use the money?

1.Contributions help for faster future releases and faster bug fixes. In other words it's giving me motivation to work harder, fix bugs and add design improvements.

2.I'm running a 6 year old machine and right now I don't have money to buy a new one. This one is really really slow I'd be nice to buy a new one with Windows 7 so that I can test the themes.

3.Education.Education is important, right?I'm young and I'd be nice if I have money for education.Soon I'll be going to University and it'd be nice to invest more money in education.

Sorry if my English is bad.I hope you like my themes.I'll try to support them for future versions of Firefox.Donations help! : )
Have a nice day! : )
