Happy birthday Bloody Red

Back in 2009 on 13th February I released Bloody Red version 0.1. It was my first dark theme and the first theme in which I used my own icons, images and code.

It has been 3 years since I first released version 0.1 and man a lot has changed since then. I improved the design a bit with Firefox 3.5 and 3.6 but with the release of Firefox 4 the theme has been completely redesigned and soon after that I have created 4 sub-skins which are absolutely free to use, easy to install and look amazing. See how to install and use the Bloody Red sub-skins by clicking here http://firefox-goodies.net63.net/sub-skins/bloody-red-sub-skins.html

For the future I'll try to keep up with latest Firefox releases and continue to support and improve the theme if possible. Now I don't have time to work on themes and web development but this summer I'm planning to put more time in that. I have some real life things I have to deal with and I think you'll all agree that real life problems are more important than supporting a theme. Besides I'm not getting paid for doing that.
So yeah Happy birthday Bloody Red! I'm hoping for more downloads, users, donations and theme improvements in the future. I'm looking forward your creating comments in the comments box below.

3 years of Firefox theme development

Yup last Thursday January 12th I celebrated 3 years of Firefox theme development. I would like to thank you users of all the support throughout these 3 years, the amo editors, those of you who donated and those who downloaded and tried my themes. I have ten themes, 523 288 users and 8 385 077 total theme downloads which in my opinion is a pretty good result.

Also I haven't been posting here lately because I was way to busy with real life problems and stuff and when I find time I am spending more time on my web-site project http://web-goodies.comli.com/ If you want to find more information about how my theme development started visit this page: Click

Bloody Red next on the update list!

Bloody Red lava
I'm starting work on new version of Bloody Red. I'll fix a lot of Firefox 6 and above related bugs like the url color, broken categories icons in the add-ons manager and more.

Also I'll try to add the Bloody Red Lava design to the theme. Users will be able to use it by placing a line of code in their userChrome.css document like they do with Purple Fox (to learn more about the userChrome.css document see the article below)

Bloody Red lava used to be available for users you donated but now it's free and you can download it from HERE This is a like a new theme and has nothing to do with the original Bloody Red. The icons and the design are new but with this next version you decide which design to use by adding or removing the line of code from your userChrome document.

That's all for now. More news soon! : )

Purple Fox theme pack released - 3 themes in one!

Yup the Purple Fox theme pack is finally here! Latest version (7.0.17.09.11) includes 2 more Purple Fox skins, new tab group window design and few minor bug fixes.

When you download the theme from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/purple-fox/  you install the Purple Fox classic design which you might be familiar with. Here's how to use the other two awesome looking new Purple Fox designs!

To use the subskin you need to add a line of code to your userChrome.css document. It's really simple. userChrome.css is a file that you can edit to tweak the appearance of Firefox. When Firefox starts up, it reads this file and then applies any commands you may have added to this file.

The file is located in C:\Documents and Settings\[USER]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\default.tea\chrome\ . If you don't have it create a new document with notepad and name it userChrome.css .After that paste in the directory written above.

Purple Fox has two lines of code which can add. You can add one at a time. You can't use the two new designs at the same time.
 -------------------------------------------------------------------------
Purple Fox design 1
In order to use the first Purple Fox design (image on the right) simple add this line of code to your userChrome.css document!

@import url("chrome://browser/skin/skins/skin1.css");

If Firefox is open close and start it again to see the changes. If your Firefox is already closed just paste the code, start it and you shall see the difference.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Purple Fox design 2

Same goes for design 2 (image on the left). Simply add this code to your userChrome.css document.

@import url("chrome://browser/skin/skins/skin2.css");

If Firefox is open close and start it again to see the changes. If your Firefox is already closed just paste the code, start it and you shall see the changes.

Also this version includes new tab group window design. (image below) Enjoy and have a nice day!

Presenting Purple Fox skin 2!

Honestly I have no idea how many people read my blog or visit my websites because I still have no comments, followers or likes and stuff but who knows maybe there are Purple Fox fans somewhere around. Second Purple Fox skin is complete. There are few more things I want to fix before releasing the theme.

Next version of Purple Fox will include the following features :
*Purple Fox classic skin with minor bug fixes and improvements
*Two new skins which can be activated by placing a line of code in your userChrome.css document (more about how to do that in future article when I release the new version.)

Here's an image of Skin 2 :

Have a nice day! :-)

Purple Fox subskins?

Purple Fox subskin 1
I've always wanted to make subskins for some of my themes and this may become possible in the near future.I have the design and all that's needed is some coding.

I've make 2 more Purple Fox designs. You can see the first one on the left.It has a nice lighter design with grey patters.I'll reveal the second one tomorrow but I've been working on this and hopefully I'll release it soon.Hope there are no problems with the coding.Users can enable the new designs by placing a line of code in their userChrome.css file. (more information about that soon)

Another thing I want to say is that if everything runs fine I'll probably try to implement the Purple Fox Christmas design as a 4th subskin in the future.I haven't come up with the design yet and it is probably going to be really complicated so I may not release it as a subskin but we'll see in the future.I'm not even sure for the Christmas design yet but I thought it'd be nice to give some info about how the development of theme shall continue.

Purple Fox theme with new preview image!

Purple Fox - new preview image!
Unfortunately for the last month Purple Fox downloads when down from 1700 to less than 400 which is not good for me. This used to be one of my most popular themes back in the Firefox 4 nad 5 days. Sometimes a theme can be really bad and get a lot downloads and users because of the preview image. I decided to change it.
I've added a nice dark purple-gray background, the logo and the navigation as a preview. In my case I'm having an awesome theme and a preview so I hope that it'll help attract more people to download purple fox. Hope you like it as much as I do. Wish me luck :_)

7.0 is the number of Firefox I'm using in this case Firefox 7 beta

About the numbers people are saying that I should put the month in front of the date.I don't know where you live bug here in my country we write it date, month, year.I apologise if I confused someone but that's how I'm used to it.After all the theme is what matters not the version number.Don't criticize me for that. : )

Download Sky Pilot from HERE!

Remember every navigator needs a pilot!

Bloody Red Lava released for users who donated?

Guys I'm a bit confused.A few days ago I released new version of Green Fox which has this awesome lava effect (image below) but things with downloads didn't go as I thought they would.I thought that there'd be more downloads since Green Fox is awesome and this new lava effect adds more to the awesomeness.
At the moment Bloody Red is on page 1 in the most downloaded themes of the week table and I just don't want to lose it's popularity and users by taking the risk with this version.Sure it's nice but who knows if people will like it.

That's why I'm making it a version for premium users. In other words those who donate 2$ or more for the Bloody Red theme will have the chance to try Bloody Red Lava. You can donate for the Bloody Red theme project from here https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/a-bloody-red-theme/ I'll be sending the theme to people who didn't read this post and to those who donated more than 2$ before.

Important:If Green Fox gets enough weekly downloads I'll be uploading Bloody Red Lava to the Firefox add-ons page!
